Rhodes College is about to launch an $8 million renovation of Rhodes Tower in the first step toward updating its sciences facilities.
The university has hired contractor Grinder Taber & Grinder Inc. and architect Hambury Evans to renovate the tower at 2000 N. Parkway Blvd. primarily used by the physics department, a spokesman confirmed today.
The renovation is being funded by the college's Campaign For Rhodes fundraising drive, which netted a $4.4 million grant in August 2013 from The Plough Foundation, as we reported then. The capital campaign is ongoing to raise money for other initiatives.
Rhodes is ranked 17th in the U.S. for producing physics majors who go on to receive a Ph.D. in physics of anatomy.
