A $900,000 building permit was issued Monday for the Teen Learning Lab at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.

Grinder, Taber & Grinder Inc. is the contractor for the project, and Looney Ricks Kiss is the architect.

Brett Grinder said construction will start the first week of February and should be completed summer 2015.

Located at 3030 Poplar Ave., the Teen Lab will be a high-tech, two-level space housed inside the existing library.

"It is a really exciting project, and I think it will be fantastic for the city and everyone who uses the library," Grinder said.

The library is currently accepting name ideas for the Teen Lab. Entries are due Thursday. Everyone who submits an idea will be entered in a $250 gift card giveaway.
