The 2022 crop of finalists may be the best in Building Memphis’ 10 years. So, it stands to reason that the category winners and overall superlatives are that much more impressive.

The finalists were honored and the winners named at a live awards event at the Memphis Botanic Garden on Tuesday, March 29. The Gold Sponsor of Building Memphis is Alston Construction Co. The Association Sponsor is BOMA Memphis.

Here are the winners of the 2022 Building Memphis awards, with links to the full profiles of all finalists in each category.

Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award honors projects that go above and beyond in thoughtfully addressing a significant need or improving the quality of life for a wide range of people. The 2022 winner, Memphis Union Mission’s Opportunity Center, lifts up those in our city who have the least. It ensures first that everyone has access to basic needs: food, water, shelter, sleep. Then, with a lovely, lovingly laid-out facility, the nonprofit offers a suite of services to their population, providing psychological support, a sense of belonging and community, love, and grace. Memphis Union Mission's Opportunity Center strives for nothing less than to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Project of the Year

Project of the Year goes to the single facility that most demonstrates every area of excellence that Building Memphis stands for. The 2022 winner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center (ARC), is downright futuristic. Its layout creates spaces for collaboration, and its design and aesthetic are a boundless source of inspiration for creativity for users whose work literally saves lives. The Inspiration4 ARC promises to improve the lives of not only those in the Memphis community but also for those around the world, for decades to come.
