FedEx Freight will move headquarters to the Southwind area, near FedEx Express World Headquarters, after signing a lease at 8285 Tournament Drive in the Southwind Office Center.

The corporate office of FedEx Corp.’s less-than-truckload unit has been located at Renaissance Center in East Memphis.

A building permit was pulled Monday, March 31, for $5.8 million in interior renovations on the three-story office building off Hacks Cross adjoining Tournament Players Club Southwind.

FedEx Freight has leased the entire 73,000-square-foot building, according to a statement released by spokesman Ron Mears.

“The company will move its headquarters from its existing location in East Memphis to the larger space located near FedEx Express World Headquarters. The move will occur once the new building is made ready for FedEx Freight to occupy,” it said.

The Crump Firm is architect for the renovation, and Grinder Taber & Grinder Inc. is listed as contractor.

FedEx Freight was formed from the acquisition of American Freightways and Viking Freight in 2001.

The unit had $7.582 billion in revenue in the fiscal year ending last May 31.
