Hog & Hominy getting a 'refresher'

Hog & Hominy, owned by restaurateurs Michael Hudman and Andy Ticer, is currently undergoing a renovation.

"We're trying to give it a refresher," Hudman said.

As part of that work, they will tweak the aesthetics, work on the sound issues, and add a new office, a new dough room, and a new pizza oven.

An addition at the back will add new kitchen and dining space.

The work will be in three phases. The restaurant is currently closed for lunch, except for Saturdays and Sundays.

The first phase will involve work on the dining room and the kitchen. During the second phase, they will build a horseshoe-shaped communal lounge.

The third phase will deal with the bar area, which will be shut off temporarily. As a substitute for the bar, they are planning to have a bar cart in the meantime and are brainstorming ideas about a special margarita cart, for example.

They hope to debut the new dining room by early December and have the whole thing completed by next spring.

The work is being done by Grinder Taber & Grinder. LRK is providing architectural and interior design services for the project.

Hog & Hominy opened on Brookhaven Circle in 2011. It was named a best new restaurant in GQ Magazine, Southern Living, and Bon Appetit and was profiled in The New York Times.

"We want to put more life in it," Hudman said, "for the next 20 years."
