After operating in a small storefront for eight years, Hattiloo Theatre – the first Black repertory theatre in Memphis – built a new, modern space in a growing arts district. The ground-up structure features support spaces and two black box theatres. The windowless exterior of the auditoriums are covered in shingled siding for visual interest. Cor-Ten cladding was installed along the southern side for its ability to weather and oxidize over time and add to the striking color and character of the unique building.
