In 2025, Grinder, Taber & Grinder completed a $2.2 million renovation of the Church of the River, a landmark congregation overlooking the Mississippi River. The project, completed in just ten months, was designed to support the church’s continued growth while preserving the integrity and beauty of its celebrated architectural legacy.
From the beginning, the renovation sought to strike a delicate balance between modernization and reverence for the past. The revitalized campus now offers an enhanced experience for worship and community life, with new indoor and outdoor gathering areas that encourage connection and reflection. Throughout the building, updated lighting and refined finishes bring warmth and cohesion to the interiors, while thoughtfully reconfigured circulation paths improve both accessibility and safety for members and visitors alike.
A number of carefully crafted design elements reflect Grinder, Taber & Grinder’s commitment to quality and detail. The addition of a state-of-the-art A/V control room provides cutting-edge technology for services and events, while custom millwork and cabinetry add richness and character that complement the church’s timeless design. Every feature was planned with intention—modernizing the space without compromising its distinctive charm or the serene atmosphere that defines its setting along the river.
With this renovation, The Church of the River can now look towards the future while honoring the foundation of its past—a project that embodies the firm’s dedication to excellence, craftsmanship, and respect for architectural heritage.
